Representatives,

In SB 6304 is a section called "Rolling Resistance of Replacement Tires".  This section will establish and enforce efficiency standards for replacement tires on passenger cars and trucks.

Have some experience with these tires, I want to tell you that these tires do not last as long as regular tires.  In fact, the high efficiency tires that were on my car didn't even last 30,000 miles.  Most tires today last 50,000 miles and many last as long as 70,000 miles.

Why mandate a high efficiency tire that will only last half the life of most tires?  Tires are already a big pollution problem.  Why should you mandate doubling the pollution from tires?   Do these tires really save that much gasoline, that they make up for the tire pollution?  Or is it just shifting it from on type of pollution to another?   Many answer to these questions is NO or no real benefit.

These tires also cost more for the consumer.   Not only up front, but in more frequent replacement costs.

Please allow consumers to make up their own minds.  Please allow our freedom of choice.

Please DELETE this section of bill SB 6304.  It is needless and fruitless legislation.

Thanks,

Tim Schwantes
