Dear Mr. Schlusser,

 Thank you for taking the time to express your views regarding trade policy.


For far too long, poorly negotiated trade deals have failed our Nation, our workers, and our communities.  These broken policies allowed foreign nations to flood our markets with cheap goods, hollow out our manufacturing base, weaken our ability to produce essential goods, and create dangerous supply chain vulnerabilities that threaten both our economic strength and national security.


Under my leadership, we are once again putting our Nation’s interests first.  On my first day back in office, I reestablished a robust trade policy that promotes American investment and productivity, enhances our Nation’s industrial and technological advantages, defends our economic and national security, and—above all—puts American workers, manufacturers, farmers, ranchers, entrepreneurs, and businesses first.


My Administration is modernizing outdated trade agreements, confronting unfair foreign practices using strategic tariffs, and securing new deals based on fairness, reciprocity, and American strength.  These efforts are restoring balance to a broken global trade system and fueling growth in the American economy.  


We are already seeing results.  Foreign governments that once exploited the United States are returning to the negotiating table.  We are securing historic trade agreements that open foreign markets, drive investment into our economy, and prioritize American-made goods, including with the European Union and Japan—the two largest trade deals ever made.  As a result, companies are reshoring production, rebuilding critical supply chains, and creating high-paying jobs across the country.  At the same time, these trade deals are helping lower prices for American consumers and reducing foreign dependence.  American workers and businesses are finally back to competing on a level playing field—and they are winning.  


I will always fight to protect American workers, grow our economy, and deliver trade policies that put America First.  The Golden Age of America is finally upon us—and we are just getting started.
