This letter is in response to article by Ty Masterson in KC Star 1-18-24..
I read your piece in the KC Star today. I agree with a majority of your points, but right to my point. Eliminating income tax, that's good, but state sales tax on food, don't bother with it. It will be gone soon enough already. Property tax is what the large majority, if not all Kansans, are focused on. Alot of people don't have the kind of funds to shell out on these bombshells that are dropped on them annually. And as you well know the increases as of late have gotten way past ridiculous. Property taxes need to be tied in to the cost of living allowance [cola] like our retirement checks are, rather than the assessed value of our homes. The recent spike in home values and the ensuing tax money coming out of our pockets just encourages unnecessary spending by taxing jurisdictions of OUR money. Addressing this issue and getting it resolved benefits all Kansans who are fortunate enough to have a roof over their head. This issue is what your constituents want and need above all else. Please put differences and petty politics aside and get this done.
