Good morning. My name is Octavia Staple and I am writing to you because I am having trouble sleeping tonight due to an irresponsible, careless, unjustified incident occurred at my child’s bus stop on 3/6. I was running late to pick my daughter up from her bus stop because my oldest daughter had a hair appointment. By law, the procedure is, if no one(authorized)is waiting at the bus stop for the student, they return them to the school after the route is finished so the parent can pick them up. I notified the school to let them know I was running late, and on my way to pick up my child. When I arrived, it was a few other students waiting on their parents as well. At this point 20 minutes has passed and I am still waiting on my child to arrive. The school then contacted Missouri Department of Transportation to see where the bus driver was located. They couldn’t provide me with clear answer. It went from “they don’t know” to asking for a description of her. I was then told by a school official that the bus driver and the attendant released my child to a 12 yr old minor without authorization or permission. The school had a number on the parent but didn’t want to give me any info. Almost 2 hrs into locating my child, I was met at the child’s home, in which the bus driver released her to, where the Board of Director for the school district was there waiting there with 2 other officials and confirmed my daughter was there. This should have NEVER HAPPENED! I also live on the same street the bus arrives in which you can see instantly if I am at home. At that moment, the driver should have not allowed my child to leave the bus with an unauthorized minor in which I do not know and has never communicated with in the 4 years I have been a resident of Berkeley. The bus driver knows exactly where my home is and FAILED to provide care and safety for my 6 year old. A 12 year old was given responsibility for my 6 year old! Something must be done ASAP! Please help!
