I just read an article regarding, "Under House Bill 0978, camping on public property, including parks, is a Class E felony and camping along a highway or under a bridge is a Class C misdemeanor.9 Therefore, people who sleep on park benches or gather on public property could be arrested or fined.10 This new bill makes Tennessee the first U.S. state to make it a felony to camp on public property.11 It was already illegal to sleep on private property and state property, and now public property has been added.12 There is almost no place where the homeless can sleep without facing the chance of getting arrested or fined.13"
I understand people sometimes are frustrated, aggravated maybe by homeless people. It certainly doesn't make the home value go up but we are Christians here in TN, for the most part You change the benches so people can't lay down, make it a felony to sleep anywhere. The people making these laws have hardened their hearts. You want to incentivize their getting help. Well will you allow them to stay in your guest room until that happens?
I'm disappointed in Tennessee. A state I'm usually very proud of.
