Gerrymandering

Seeing the maps drawn up by the legislature on Friday felt like a smack in the face. I thought we were going the right direction, passing an initiative to create an independent redistricting commission, and seeing the amazing transparent, and fair work they completed by turning in maps that looked, you know pretty darn good. I was able to participate in those sessions, I trusted that process and I saw them adopt the input of the public. My thinking was, this commission did all this work the right way, the good people of the legislature will have to adopt most/some/all of the ideas captured there.

Boy was I wrong. These maps are shameless gerrymandering, disrespectful of Utahs voters and meant to silence any opposition. Antidemocratic, that's the word.

I hope you are fighting like hell against these maps. I demand you fight like hell because this is bad for Utah. All Utah. I want to see statements from you describing the corruption presented here and I want you to take a clear stand - tell us that you will not allow our votes to become meaningless and tell the legislature this map is unacceptable.
