I'm writing as your constituent to encourage you to support the BREATHE ACT, a visionary bill authored by the Movement for Black Lives that divests taxpayer dollars from policing and invests in community safety.
As we watch events unfold in the Twin Cities this week, another young man was needlessly killed when an officer "mistook" a stungun for his revolver. This loss of life, particularly targeting people of color, is unconscionable and unacceptable.
By diverting funds to allocate toward professionals who are equipped to respond in mental health crises and other highly charged situations, we can save lives and communities. That's why I'm asking you to support the BREATHE ACT today.
