Thank you for contacting my office regarding the Sabika Sheikh Firearm Licensing and Registration Act. This is an important issue and I appreciate hearing your thoughts about it.

I strongly believe that the right to bear arms is an essential right guaranteed to us by the Second Amendment of our Constitution. As you know, earlier this year, Rep. Shelia Jackson Lee (TX-18) introduced H.R. 127, the Sabika Sheikh Firearm Licensing and Registration Act, which would create a national firearm registration system, mandate individuals undergo a psychological evaluation to possess a firearm and impose an $800 insurance policy for firearm licensing. Furthermore, this legislation would raise the minimum age to purchase a firearm from 18 to 21, while also implementing heightened restrictions on specific ammunition an individual can obtain. I feel that H.R. 127 is a blatant attempt to restrain the constitutional rights of law-abiding citizens to own firearms.  For those of us in rural America where hunting and other outdoor activities are a way of life, the restrictions in this bill threaten the very fabric of our communities.

Currently, H.R. 127 has been referred to the House Judiciary Committee, where it awaits further consideration. Please be assured that I will keep your views in mind should this bill come before the full House for a vote.

Thank you again for contacting me. Your thoughts and opinions are of critical importance to me as I work to represent California's 8th District in Congress. If you would like to stay informed on what is happening in Washington, D.C. and the 8th District of California, I encourage you to sign up for my newsletter. I sincerely appreciate your comments and look forward to hearing from you in the future.

Sincerely,

Rep. Jay Obernolte

Mr. President, Senators and Representative Obernolte,

I write to you this evening while sitting with my daughter, reflecting on the state of our great nation. To say that I am deeply concerned about the socialist leaning legislation working its way through congress, is a gross understatement. I am deeply concerned that this administration, and this Congress, is going to such lengths to severely restrict my constitutional rights under the Second Amendment. The current bills being considered for a vote, or in committees, go well beyond infringement, as prohibited in our constitution, and will do absolutely NOTHING, to stop criminals from getting firearms. These bills will only prohibit or restrict law abiding citizens from excersizing our God given rights enshrined in our Constitution. Therefore, I strongly urge you to vote no on All the following bills, and any other that comes close to infringing upon my rights:

H.R. 127, S.B. 8, H.R. 1112, H.R. 1446

If you truly care about finding a solution that will reduce gun deaths then you will work across the isle and look at ways to address the underlying people problem behind gun deaths. I have no doubt there is a 'common sense' solution that doesn't infringe on my right but actually address some of the underlying issues, such as inner city violence, better ways to provide mental health care for those struggling, father absenteeism, and others.

Should you chose not to vote as requestedI, rest-assured, I will do everything I can to get you voted out of office and replace you with patriots that will uphold the constitution. I will also use my resources to bring legal challenges to any bill that infringes on my rights.

Thank you for considering an average and sensible American's opinion.
