I am writing to express my sadness and dismay at the removal of the rainbow crosswalk honoring the memory of the Pulse Nightclub massacre. While I 100% agree with the state's view on controlling political messaging, especially hate and violence inciting words and actions - I see the rainbow crosswalk as far from meeting such criteria. This is simply an honorarium - against hate.
If anything, this serves as "fuel" for those who want to prove a point that Republican led states are anti-gay - which we know is not true. I don't know if there was any process to get the rainbow crosswalk, there definitely should be - I wouldn't want to see every crosswalk take on another "cause". I do feel that the Pulse shooting was certainly a significant enough event in Florida to warrant this modest honorarium and it is worthy of exception, or permitting.
