As a constituent in ZIP code 95827, I’m urging you to take bold and principled action to defend the Second Amendment. These rights are not suggestions. They are guaranteed.
First, fix and pass H.R. 38, the Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act. Law-abiding citizens should not become criminals simply by crossing state lines with their legally carried firearm. This bill passed the House in 2017 but stalled in the Senate. The right to self-defense does not stop at a border. The Supreme Court’s ruling in McDonald v. Chicago affirmed that the Second Amendment applies across all states. It’s time to finish what was started.
Second, repeal the National Firearms Act. The NFA of 1934 imposes outdated and unjust restrictions on commonly owned items like suppressors and short-barreled rifles. These restrictions contradict D.C. v. Heller, which confirmed that firearms in common use are protected. The NFA punishes peaceful citizens while doing nothing to deter criminals. It must go.
Third, replace the Senate Parliamentarian if procedural games are being used to block the restoration of basic rights. The role of the Parliamentarian is advisory, not supreme. When the Constitution is being sidelined, elected leaders must act.
I’m not asking for privilege. I’m asking for the Constitution to be honored. Stand up for what is right, not just what is easy.
