I have a question on whom I would contact, or the protocol to offer a suggestion on what I feel is a growing safety issue in regards to "traffic roundabouts" that have evolved in the recent years.
As a retired police officer from the Chicago area, traffic specialist and instructor for 30 years, as I still currently teach traffic safety for the National Safety Council, I am noticing a increasing trend of motorists who are becoming generally disrespectful on navigating roundabouts with right of way, but most concerning of their speed.
The design of roundabouts is to reduce congestion which I think they do, but I also see a general disregard for speed and right of way issues. I would like to see signage in roundabouts specifically to slow or even a posted speed limit sign, much like speed limit signs on expressway ramps/construction zones/school zones…etc. This trend suggests to me an increase of additional preventable traffic crashes.
I am just wondering the protocol of how I would offer that suggestion to whom ever or does this email satisfy this suggestion.
