Dear Mr. and Mrs. Rentschler,

Thank you for contacting me to express your views.  I appreciate hearing from you.

In the 119th Congress, I remain committed to working in a bipartisan fashion with federal, state, and local stakeholders to create work and wealth in our region and address the pressing issues facing our communities.  As a Member of the House Appropriations Committee, and a Member of the Subcommittees on Commerce, Justice, and Science and Energy and Water, I am focused on securing federal investments in Northwest Indiana to enhance our economy, improve our transportation infrastructure, protect our environmental resources, and strengthen our public safety.  I will also continue to uplift our incredible members of organized labor and advocate for lower costs for working families and seniors.

Here are some of the actions I have taken to deliver positive results for Northwest Indiana as a Member of the U.S. House of Representatives:

  • As Vice Chairman of the Congressional Steel Caucus, I am fighting to defend American steelworkers, strengthen Buy America requirements, and prevent unfairly traded steel products from being dumped on our shores.  I have consistently advocated for the continuation of Section 232 steel tariffs, testified on trade cases before the International Trade Commission, and supported legislation to ensure a level playing field for our steelworkers.

  • I supported the Fiscal Year 2024 Consolidated Appropriations Act, which includes over $15 million in Community Project Funding requests for Northwest Indiana.  This includes funding to directly support our police departments, expand heavy cargo operations at the Gary/Chicago International Airport, enhance operations and maintenance at Michigan City Harbor and Burns Harbor, and institute sewer infrastructure improvements throughout Northwest Indiana.

  • I supported the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act.  This law makes necessary infrastructure investments in our region, including $7 billion to revitalize Indiana’s roads and bridges, $751 million to improve drinking water systems, and $673 million to improve public transportation systems.  Through this law, the Department of Energy selected a Hydrogen Hub at the BP facility in Whiting, which will create a new generation of manufacturing and clean energy job opportunities for our region.

  • I supported the Inflation Reduction Act.  This lowers health care and energy costs for Americans and promotes initiatives to address climate change.  The law allows Medicare to negotiate certain prescription drug prices, limits out-of-pocket costs for insulin at $35 per month, and for the first time ever, caps Medicare Part D out-of-pocket drug costs at $2,000.

  • I supported the CHIPS and Science Act.  This law makes new investments in research, innovation, and American manufacturing to accelerate U.S. production of critical semiconductor chips, expand research capacity, and strengthen the supply chain to make more goods in America.

As we proceed with the work of the House Appropriations Committee, be assured that I will continue to closely monitor the implementation of these laws and all issues that impact the people of Northwest Indiana with your views in mind.

Congressmen,
Any chance you can tell your fellow members of Congress to scale down the hate rhetoric before more violence is perpetrated on law enforcement and innocent Americans caught in crossfire. The Democrat far left are completely unstable and you people in Washington DC along with the disgusting media are fanning the flames. If this were Trump supporters you would be screaming bloody murder. This is totally unacceptable.
