Thank you for contacting me and offering your thoughts regarding Russia’s invasion of Ukraine – I appreciate your thoughts on this important issue.
On February 24, 2022, Vladimir Putin launched his unprovoked and unjust assault on Ukraine, which has led to immense suffering and loss of life. Thousands of innocent civilians have died, and millions have been forced to flee their homes to escape the ongoing violence and destruction.
I stand in solidarity with the Ukrainian people and am mindful that Pennsylvania is home to more than 122,000 Ukrainians – the second most of any state. Our Pennsylvania’s 4th Congressional district is home to a vibrant Ukrainian American community – many of whom have family in Ukraine.
This war, humanitarian crisis, and crimes against humanity cannot go unchecked. That’s why, during the Biden Administration, Congress passed and President Biden signed into law much needed humanitarian and military assistance to Ukraine, as well as legislation that holds Russia accountable. This includes billions of dollars in aid to Ukraine, a Lend-Lease Act to help Ukraine defend themselves, and a stop to the import of Russian oil and energy products into the United States.
Unfortunately, the Trump administration has taken a radically different stance — policies of appeasement toward Putin. The tragic reality is that President Trump has been reluctant to fully confront Russia and has even taken actions that seem to embolden Putin. Meanwhile, Ukraine continues to endure unspeakable atrocities.
I remain resolute in my commitment to advocating for the Ukrainian people and their sovereignty. I will continue to fight for more support for Ukraine and to ensure that they have the resources they need to defend their land, rebuild their nation, and live under a thriving democracy.
Again, thank you for contacting me about this important issue. I welcome and value your ideas and encourage you to sign up for my newsletter for more information.
