I’m writing as a father, a constituent from Sacramento (95827), and someone who takes both safety and constitutional rights seriously. I’m asking you to support the Hearing Protection Act and the SHORT Act.
These are not fringe proposals, they are common-sense reforms grounded in safety, practicality, and fairness. The Hearing Protection Act would make it easier for law-abiding citizens to own suppressors. These devices do not silence firearms. They reduce sound to safe levels, helping prevent permanent hearing loss in emergencies and at the range. In real-world home defense scenarios, no one has time to reach for hearing protection. Suppressors are already legal in over 40 states, yet California lags behind due to outdated fear and fiction from Hollywood.
The SHORT Act eliminates burdensome federal restrictions on rifles based solely on barrel length. Rifles with shorter barrels can be safer and easier to use in confined spaces, which makes a real difference for people defending their homes, especially seniors, women, or those with smaller frames. Again, these rifles are already legal in most of the country. California’s ban and the NFA restrictions only punish responsible citizens.
Worse, both federal laws operate as a tax on a constitutional right. Forcing citizens to pay $200 and register themselves just to own tools used for safety and home defense is unjust. These laws don’t deter criminals, they deter good people from protecting their families.
Please support these reforms and help California catch up to the rest of the country.
