Talk around our kitchen table

President Trump:

I am a constituent in Lexington KY.

I wanted you to be aware of the talks I've had with my wife in the kitchen. I've shared my concerns with her about actions that you are taking that make our lives harder and more anxious.

1. "Funding cuts for Local Food Purchase Assistance program (LFPA), and potentially $500 million to  be cut from the Emergency Food Assistance Program (TEFAP)." Food insecurity is a real thing for the inner city elementary school where I volunteer. Some of the students "live" in vehicles when they go "home", and others live at the Salvation Army. Dinner at, or transportation to, fast food is not an option for some of them.

2. "Effective January 6, 2025, the Social Security Administration will require all customers to schedule an appointment for service at their local Social Security offices, including requests for Social Security cards." This is especially concerning for friends who are confined to beds or wheelchairs and live in nursing homes.

3. Firing Inspectors General, the very people who are responsible for monitoring spending in federal agencies. My concern is the larger trend of firing any person that provides friction to your Administration's actions.

4. Arbitrarily calculated tariffs. Your tariffs are forcing us to postpone a car purchase planned before your actions (remember, almost ALL cars have foreign parts or assembly, including Teslas).

5. And most especially and personally, cuts to funding Medicaid and Medicare. My sister lives in a skilled nursing facility due to a lifetime living with cerebral palsy and being unable to work. Fortunately, through the generosity and support of the Federal government and the Commonwealth of Kentucky, she is able to live in a nursing home. Cutting those funds will likely cause SNF to cut staffing, reduce beds, or close.

I only wish that my President were more concerned with caring for my family, rather than making our lives harder.

Please reconsider your actions.
