I am Power of Attorney for my mom. She was recently denied Arizona Long Term Care ALTCS. My mom has been staying at Park Senior Villas for 2 years. She has MS, Diabetes, Arthritis, and Dementia. She needs to have her Medicine given to her, because she is not able to manage all her medications herself. She falls regularly at least once a week. She is mostly in a wheelchair and needs to be helped to the wheelchair, bed, recliner or a car if going somewhere. She would not be safe to be without the 24 hour care. Yet during her ALTCS evaluation, they determined she only scored a 45 and needed a 60. The healthcare facility and her primary care doctor all agree that she needs the full-time care, but the Representative from ALTCs doing the evaluation (Who is not medically licensed) is determining that the Doctors and Nurses are wrong, and she does not need this care. My Mom and Dad have Paid taxes all her life and contributed to Medicare, social security etc. My dad passed away in 2001, he set up his retirement such that my mom was able to pay all her bills until this year. she has been paying taxes on that money and the healthcare bills are just too much so she ran out. Now when she needs the state to help her with these medical expenses, they are denying her coverage. They want a neurologist to diagnose her with dementia. This seems like a psychologist diagnosis to me. My Mom is taking 10-12 different mediations to treat all her ailments including mental health. She has records from her neurologist that say she has lesions in the brain, so I am not understanding what more we can do to convince someone who is not in the medical field that my mom needs full time care. So, I am reaching out to my Representatives and Govenor. My mom Turns 79 years old this year. Seems like the elderly is who Medicare, Medicaid, and ALTCs should be for. From my perspective it seems like that money is going to everything but taking care of our elderly. Is there anything you can do to help?
