current flood insurance policies in Long Beach, NY which cost $1,105 per year will increase to $6,011 in the future.

Paying a flood insurance premium of $6,000 per year is similar to taking on a second mortgage which most people can't afford.   I have read in the N.J. Patch that N.J. lawmakers have a Bill that would reform new FEMA flood insurance rates.
